New Zealand also has government owned campgrounds, which provide camping options in national and forest parks, on conservation land. These DOC (Department of Conservation) campgrounds mostly offer only basic facilities and are on a first in first served basis. Bookings can be made by contacting the nearest DOC visitor information centre. With any campsite or holiday park in New Zealand, you are required to clean up after yourself both in the kitchen and around the site. Bookings in NZ are advised from the beginning of November until the end of March. Staff at the campsite or holiday park are very helpful and can guide you in the right direction with regard to local attractions or tours.
